Specific steps in this document may be conditional depending on the scenario and will be highlighted as such.
This document applies to 64-bit Linux operating systems on the x86-64 hardware architecture.
Note: E-Business Suite Release 12 patches are generally built on Linux x86 (32-bit), and users should pick Linux x86 when choosing platform-specific 12.2 patches to be applied on Linux x86-64 middle tiers. 32-bit E-Business Suite Linux x86 patches can be applied on 64-bit Linux x86-64 operating systems.
It should be noted that technology components bundled with E-Business Suite Release 12 may be built on Linux x86-64. For example, Oracle Database patches are built on Linux x86-64 and users should pick Linux x86-64 when choosing platform-specific Database patches to be applied on the database tier. Fusion Middleware version 11.1.1.7 patches are also built on Linux x86-64 and should be chosen for platform-specific middleware patches applied on the application tier - Forms/Reports 10gR2 patches for the application tier are built on Linux x86.

Oracle E-Business Suite R12 is supported on Linux 64-bit operating systems running on the x86-64 hardware architecture.

1: The Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) is certified as well as the Red Hat default kernel (2.6.18). The use of the UEK R1 (2.6.32) is certified on Oracle/Red Hat Linux 5 Update 5 (5.5) or later and UEK R2 (2.6.39) on Oracle 5 Update 8 (5.8) or later.

Linux Containers (LXC)
Linux Containers (LXC) is a lightweight virtualization solution that enables running multiple Linux instances that are isolated from each other on the same host. These LXC instances have processes that have their own private view of the OS with its own process id (PID) space, file system structure and network interfaces. LXC allows the use of container OS versions that are different from that of the host - for example, one can run OL 5, 6 or 7 Containers in an Oracle Linux 6.6 host.
For information on features, installing and configuring Linux Containers on Oracle Linux, please refer to Chapter 9: Linux Containers in the Oracle Linux Administrator's Solutions Guide for Release 6 or Chapter 27: Linux Containers in the Oracle Linux Administrator's Guide for Release 7.
Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2's application tier is certified with LXC with the UEK R3 (QU6 or higher) - users must review associated documentation and meet the following requirements:
Operating Systems requirements - see 'Supported Oracle Linux Container Versions' in the Documentation References section below
Kernel Requirements - Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 3 Quarterly Update 6 (3.8.13-98) or higher
Host RPM requirements for the following x86_64 lxc userspace packages:

lxc-libs-1.0.7-2.0.8 or higher
Check and configure kernel parameters, ulimit settings (in limits.conf) and swap size requirements on the host as documented in the 'Other Requirements' section of this document
The LXC container running 12.2 must be created with the "--privileged" flag
Install all required RPM packages on the Container following the 'Operating Systems Requirements' section of this document
Check and configure certain container-specific kernel parameters and ulimit settings (in limits.conf) on the Container as documented in the 'Other Requirements' section of this document. These values should be equal to or less than the values set on the host (see Linux documentation in the section below). Specific kernel parameter values to be configured on the Container are:

SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux)
SELinux is a security enhancement to Linux allowing system administrators finer control over access to system resources by users and applications.
Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux version 6, SELinux is enabled by default during OS installation with a mode of 'enforcing'. The status of SELinux in a system can be checked by running the 'sestatus' command - other modes are 'disabled' where SELinux is disabled completely, and 'permissive' where warnings are logged to a file but is not strictly enfored. The file /etc/selinux/config is the main SELinux configuration file that sets the mode and policy of SELinux in a system, while warnings are logged to /var/log/messages. Please check and review vendor-specific documentation for further details on SELinux administration and maintenance.
Release 12.2 has not yet been fully tested or certified with SELinux on RHEL/Oracle Linux 6 or higher with the use of the 'enforcing' mode enabled. Users may find issues currently with the 'enforcing' mode with 12.2 - the use of the 'permissive' mode should be used as an alternative.
Java Requirements
A number of Java Development Kits (JDK) and Java Runtime Environments (JRE) are included with Oracle E-Business Suite version 12.2, the associated Oracle Database (11gR2), and the bundled Application Server components (10gR2 Forms/Reports, WebLogic Server 11gR1).

The E-Business Suite's use of the Java runtime environment for application tier (WLS) processing is with JDK version 6 bundled in the "<FMW_HOME>/jrockit64" directory for startCD 46 and JDK version 7 in "<COMMON_TOP>/util/jdk64" for startCD 47 and higher. Patching Oracle E-Business Suite
Note: When querying for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 patches on My Oracle Support and selecting Linux x86-64 in the Platform dropdown list, it will re-direct you to a Linux x86 patch. This patch may be applied to 64-bit Linux operating systems.
Patching Fusion Middleware in Oracle E-Business Suite
When applying OPatch patches to Fusion Middleware, users must run opatch with the '-jdk <$FMW_HOME/webtier/jdk>' option due to a bug with opatch. For example,

This resolves an issue previously documented with Forms potentially hanging on Windows when switching between desktop applications.
On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 10 and 11, ensure that you set the following kernel parameter to the gid of the group used as the dba group. For example, on a system using a group named dba with the dba:!:104:oracle entry in the /etc/group file, the hugetlb_shm_group kernel parameter should be set to the following value:

Domain Name System (DNS) Resolver Parameters
Two Domain Name System (DNS) resolver parameters (timeout and attempts) are set by default to low values when the operating system is installed. These low values may cause network connections to an Oracle database to fail. If this happens, add or update the following entries to these minimum settings in the /etc/resolv.conf file on each server node:

Verifying Host Names

Threading Model in Linux must be NPTL
There are two threading models implemented in Linux - LinuxThreads (an older implementation which is not supported starting in glibc 2.4) and the modern NPTL (Native POSIX Threads Library). In order to install and run the E-Business Suite on Linux, the NPTL model must be the configured threading implementation for the operating system. This can be checked with the command:
# getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION

E-Business Suite Pre-Install RPM (available for Oracle Linux 5 and 6)
The package (oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall) for Oracle Linux 5 and 6 is available on the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN, which requires a support contract) or from the Oracle public yum repository for both Oracle Linux 5 and 6. It is recommended that this rpm be installed on top of a 'minimal' install of Linux to provide just the necessary packages to install and run Oracle E-Business Suite.
As with the Oracle RDBMS Pre-Install RPMs, this package installs all required E-Business Suite RPM packages for both the application and database tiers while configuring the environments with particular kernel and other values to meet most of the requirements published in this document.
This pre-install rpm will significantly reduce the preparation time of the environment prior to installing, upgrading or cloning an E-Business Suite R12 instance by performing the following tasks:
downloading and installing all software package versions and dependencies required for installing E-Business Suite R12
creating the users oracle and applmgr for use as owners of the database and application tiers respectively, while setting hard and soft shell resource limits in /etc/security/limits.conf for Oracle Linux 5 and in /etc/security/limits.d/oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall.conf for Oracle Linux 6
updating kernel parameters in /etc/sysctl.conf to recommended values
sets DNS resolver parameters in /etc/resolv.conf to minimum recommended values
sets 'numa=off' in the kernel commandline
disables 'Transparent Huge Pages (THP)' for Oracle Linux 6 if it is enabled
The following are steps needed to install the rpm using public-yum, with sample output from an Oracle Linux 6 installation:
1. As an authorized user (such as root), retrieve the file that configures repository locations:

For Oracle Linux 5, users should replace 'public-yum-ol6.repo' with 'public-yum-el5.repo' above.

4. While the above installation of the pre-install rpm includes all required packages and sets kernel parameters and other system values, it is still necessary to perform a few additional steps prior to using this environment for an E-Business Suite installation:
4a. Ensure that swap space meets the requirements as documented in the 'Swap Space' section.
4b. Ensure that the hostname settings meet the requirements as documented in the ' Verifying Host Names' section.
4c. Check threading model as documented in the 'Threading Model in Linux must be NPTL' section.
4d. Check for OPMN port conflict.
4e. Check /etc/services for size as documented below .
5. Users can now install the E-Business Suite using the Rapid Install by using the rapidwiz utility after correctly downloading and staging the E-Business Suite media as documented in the 'Oracle E-Business Suite Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install' available from Oracle Documentation:

Users should review the Installation Guide for further details, as well as Release Update Pack (RUP) READMEs as applicable.
 
Before Installing or Upgrading
Note: If the Release 12.2 installation or upgrade is performed with the Rapid Install wizard (either a new R12 installation or upgrade from 11i, 12.0 or 12.1 to 12.2), it is recommended to use the latest startCD version in order to obtain the newest set of patches and other technologies required to successfully install and run E-Business Suite. Please review the 'Current Version of startCD ' section of the My Oracle Support Document 1320300.1 ('Oracle E-Business Suite Release Notes, Release 12.2 ') for more information.

Note: Customers installing 12.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) with startCD version 50 should apply the patch 22133404 to address a build staging issue on these operating systems. Customers should follow the README instructions in the patch to update the buildStage.sh script delivered by startCD 50 and recreate the 12.2 staging directory prior to running Rapid Install.
Complete all operating system requirements, software requirements, and other requirements before installing or upgrading Oracle E-Business Suite.
Upgrade Oracle Database and Oracle Web Tier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
Customers on existing 12.2 systems who are cloning to the above operating systems must first upgrade the Oracle Database to 11gR2 (11.2.0.4 or higher) or 12c (12.1.0.2 or higher) on the source 12.2 environment following the respective documents:

Customers who installed 12.2 starting with startCD 50 or later do not have to upgrade Oracle Web Tier prior to a clone as startCD 50 delivers version 11.1.1.7.
Customers who are performing a fresh install of the E-Business Suite on these operating systems using Rapid Install may need to upgrade these technology components after the installation of EBS 12.2 (see section below in 'After Installing or Upgrading').

OPMN port conflict
Attention: By default, the OPMN service of the Application Server technology stack listens on port 6000 when started up during Rapid Install. This can conflict with the X11 port used for the graphics console on Linux servers and prevent Rapid Install from completing.

To address this issue, perform the following steps before installing or upgrading:
Check if the port 6000 is being used ("netstat -a | grep 6000")
If so, you should disable the graphics console login process on the Linux server. This can be accomplished by logging in as root and issuing the following commands:
Find the process that uses port 6000 by the command "lsof -i TCP:6000".
Use "kill -9" to abort the process found in the previous step
Confirm that nothing is listening at port 6000 ("netstat -a | grep 6000")
Modify /etc/inittab by changing "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:"
Run "/sbin/init 3" to restart dtlogin
Unset environment variable before installing (for SLES 10 and 11 only)
Unset the ENV environment variable prior to installing (to avoid failure of the registration of the 10.1.2 Oracle Home during install):
$ unset ENV
 
Check /etc/services for size
To avoid a Java stack overflow during the registration of the 10.1.2 Oracle Home while installing 12.2, it is necessary to backup the /etc/services file, remove commented lines in the file and then restore the file after installing 12.2 if there are a large number of commented lines (> ~1300) in the file.

Installing or Upgrading
Perform the installation or upgrade following the documentation (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install, Oracle E-Business Suite Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.2 or Oracle E-Business Suite Upgrade Guide: Release 12.0 and 12.1 to 12.2) relevant to the specific installation or upgrade scenario described above.
Ignore Web Server Install Pre-requisite check failure in startCD 49 or earlier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database) using startCD 49 or earlier on the above operating systems, Rapid Install may report pre-requisite check failures such as:
  Check Name:CertifiedVersions
  Check Description:This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the Oracle software is certified on the current O/S or not.

Starting with startCD 50, this error will not be seen.
Ignore link error during Web Server Install in startCD 49 or earlier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database) using startCD 49 or earlier on the above operating systems, users may see link errors such as:

These errors can be ignored as the issue will be addressed after the Web Tier is upgraded to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) as a post-install step (see below).
Starting with startCD 50, this error will not be seen.
Ignore Web Server Install Pre-requisite and Database Pre-install check warnings (SLES 11 only)
While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database), users can ignore specific warnings pertaining to missing rpms such as:

After Installing or Upgrading
Perform the following steps after installing or upgrading to Release 12.2 and before allowing users to access the system.
Create dynamic linker runtime bindings for Oracle Reports (SLES 10 and 11 installs using startCD 46 with Java 6 only)
When running Reports such as 'Active User' Concurrent Reports, the shared library libmawt may not be found for the executable rwrun and can error out. One way to fix this is to perform the following as superuser or root on the application tier system:
Create a rwrun.conf file under /etc/ld.so.conf.d and add "<10.1.2 OH>/jdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt" to this file where <10.1.2> is replaced with the actual 10.1.2 (Forms/Reports) Oracle Homes. For example:
# cd /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
# touch rwrun.conf
# echo "/d1/oracle/PROD/fs1/EBSapps/10.1.2/jdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt" > rwrun.conf

This issue does not arise when installing using startCD 47 (which includes Java 7) or higher, and so the above commands are not needed for 12.2 environments created with the startCD 47 or higher.
Upgrade Oracle Database
Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 must now upgrade the Oracle Database to 11gR2 (11.2.0.4 or higher) or 12c (12.1.0.2 or higher) on the new 12.2 environment following the respective documents:

Note:
1. When installing 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Linux 7 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, the warning regarding missing package 'pdksh-5.2.14' during pre-requisite checks can be ignored.
2. When installing 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Linux 7 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, users may see the installer error in invoking target 'agent nmhs' of makefile with the log file showing an undefined reference to symbol 'B_DestroyKeyObject'. Users should review and implement the workaround noted in the document:
Installation of Oracle 11.2.0.4 Database Software on OL7 fails with “undefined reference to symbol ‘B_DestroyKeyObject’” error (My Oracle Support Document 1965691.1)
 
Upgrade Oracle Web Tier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 on OL/RHEL 7 using startCD 49 or earlier must upgrade the Oracle Web Tier to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) or higher following the document:
Upgrading Oracle Fusion Middleware WebTier of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 to the latest 11gR1 (11.1.1.x) PatchSet (My Oracle Support Document 1590356.1)
The Web Tier should be upgraded after applying the latest 12.2 Release Update Pack (12.2.3 or higher) to the newly installed12.2.0 environment.
Note (for upgrades to Web Tier 11.1.1.7 only):
1. When installing Web Tier 11.1.1.7, apply patch 19854840 and follow the patch README to start the installer. If an error window pops up ("Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '<FMW_HOME>/webtier/webcache/lib/ins_calypso.mk'" ), click 'Continue' and ignore the error. This will be addressed during the application of the patch 19458142 below.
2. Apply the following patches as a post install step for Web Tier:
- 21081177(to fix the issue with OHS start up failing with missing library libpcre.so.0)
- 19458142
Customers who are cloning an existing EBS environment (installed with startCD 49 or earlier) to a new OL/RHEL 7 system must upgrade Oracle Web Tier prior to performing the clone (as noted above in the 'Before Installing or Upgrading' section).
Beginning with startCD 50, this Web Tier upgrade step is not necessary as the Oracle Web Tier version delivered with EBS Rapid Install is version 11.1.1.7.
Upgrade JDK (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 with startCD 46 must review and follow the instructions posted in the doucments below to upgrade to the latest available JDK versions:

Starting with startCD 47, this upgrade step is not necessary as the JDK version delivered with EBS is JDK 7.
Apply EBS Patches (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)
Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 must now apply the following patch on the new 12.2 environment:
19671435:R12.WIP.C1
19863797:R12.ENG.D1
AD/TXK delta 6 RUP (or higher) following "Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2" (My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1)
E-Business Suite Release 12.2 RUP 3 (12.2.3) or higher
1:These two patches are not required if installing 12.2 RUP 5 (12.2.5) or higher as they are included in that RUP.
 
LD_LIBRARY_PATH Environment Variable
Dynamic libraries are used as part of the relinking and execution processes. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable is used by Oracle E-Business Suite to locate the required dynamic libraries at runtime - this variable is set by the Rapid Install wizard during the installation of EBS as well as by the Rapid Clone script (adcfgclone) when configuring the target system.
If you need to change these values, use the Edit Parameters function of the OAM AutoConfig tool (by logging in as 'System Administrator' responsibility, clicking on 'System Administrator', selecting 'AutoConfig' under 'Oracle Applications Manager', and clicking on the 'Environments' tab):
On each application tier server node:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in three places:
$APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env
$ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.2/[CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the 10.1.2 Oracle home directory
In the AutoConfig interface, this corresponds to:
Location Parameter
adovars LD_LIBRARY_PATH
tools_home (10.1.2)  LD_LIBRARY_PATH
On the database server node:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in $ORACLE_HOME/[CONTEXT_NAME].env which corresponds in the AutoConfig interface to:

db_home LD_LIBRARY_PATH
After making these changes, run AutoConfig (adautocfg.sh) to implement the changes on the application and database tiers.

Net Service Listeners in Multi-user Installations
Net Service Listeners use the /var/tmp/.oracle directory to store temporary files. To give all users in a multi-user installation write privileges, update /var/tmp/.oracle with 777 permissions:
$ chmod 777 /var/tmp/.oracle

Known Issues
The following are known issues for this release.
Advanced Supply Chain Planning product (MSO) may crash when increasing number of threads for optimization
The 64-bit Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning executable MSONWL64.exe may crash when increasing the number of threads for optimization on a system with insufficient memory (bug 7259631). The following error is observed when this occurs:

Patching Application Server Oracle Homes using OPatch (Oracle Linux 6 and RHEL 6 only)
After an installation or clone of Release 12, you will need to set the OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID to '226' prior to applying patches to the 10.1.2 Application Server Oracle Home. For example, in the "ksh" shell:
$ OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID=226; export OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID
This step is needed to avoid an OPatch Config Assistant failure.
Errors while running ADOP - AD Online Patching (SLES 10 and 11 only)
While running the utility ADOP on SLES, users may see errors such as
sh: mc: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
sh: error importing   function definition for `mc'
This is due to the mc ('midnight commander') utility on SUSE being defined differently as a function with multiple lines. There is no functional loss or ramifications due to these error messages.
In order to avoid these error messages, users can choose to run the following before running ADOP:
$ unset mc
To re-enable mc after running ADOP, they can use the following command::
$ export -f mc
Error while cloning on Red Hat/Oracle Linux 5.5 with the UEK kernel
While attempting to clone E-Business Suite 12.2 on a Red Hat or Oracle Linux 5 Update 5 (5.5) with its associated Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) version 2.6.32-100.0.19, a failure will be seen during the clone phase of OHS (Web Tier) as the OUI pre-requisite checks do not include this version of the UEK.
This can be worked around by upgrading the UEK to the latest available version that is available on the public yum repository as documented here.
Errors in log files when starting Admin Server during multi-node shared file installation
Customers who have installed the modules package (environment-modules) may see errors during multi-node shared file installations in log files such as:
Starting WLS Admin Server...
sh: module: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
sh: error importing function definition for 'module'
Customers can avoid this by either unsetting the 'module' environment variable in the shell where they're installing 12.2, or by uninstalling the environment-modules rpm if they're not using the features of the modules package.
